Sedgley College was a centre of excellence as a Teacher Training College in North West England between 1903 and 1979. During these years 5,983 students were not only prepared for a career in education but for life in general. The first principal was Mother Josephine Daly (1903-1907). The last principal was Sister Barbara Hughes (1974-1979). In total there were 8 Sedgley Principals; the longest serving being Mother Mary John Greene (1917-40) and Mother Mary Placida Hoole (1942-62) On closure the college building was acquired by the Greater Manchester Police Force as an in-service centre.
Sadly the end of the college OSA will happen on May 10th 2008. Time catches up with all. However we hope that this site will act as a catalyst between where we came from and where we are now.Thank you to the committee members of many years who have worked long & hard to keep former students across the world in contact with Sedgley.
We owe gratitude to the foresight of Marie Madeleine D'Houet who founded the Faithful Companions of Jesus & we celebrate the 150th anniversary of her death this year 2008.
After the closure of the Sedgley OSA on May 10th 2008 - we should -whilst we can - keep things alive. Maybe this webpage can carry the OSA into the future.
In a small way the previous Sedgley webpage has been a contact point. Sedgleyites have made contact from as far afield as Australia & Canada as well as many in the UK.
Let us remain faithful to each other. If you have any news contact
